What is time? Is time a noun? Is it something you can befriend? Is it a place to go to? Is time a memory or is time an enemy? Time has no bottom, it is endless yet it is short. Time is full for some of us but for others it feels like an eternity. Time can be counted in moments, in memories, and in milestones. It can be forgotten, missed and remembered always.
This year I have taken the time given to me in my life to better my days, to better my mind and spirit. I have educated my brain, exercised my body and with new friendships revitalized my soul. I have steered the course and drifted about and found where I am is where I need to be. The opportunities overflow me with gratitude and yet I know in order to stay intact I must release what has been given to me, and offer it to someone else. As of now in this moment, this is the last blog I will be writing for my beloved school. Moraine Park has given me so much, I have to let go of some of it to maintain. Maybe if time and chance allows I will write again, but for now, I will take what I need and give away the rest.

More Unfolds
I have been so very busy this month with school and extra-curricular activities plus things with my kids. No wonder I got sick! Coughing, fever, stuffy head, YUCK! I hope this cold does not stick around. I have too much to do!
As I stated last time, I started college at Moraine Park Technical College in January and I jumped into clubs right away to broaden my college experience. One of those activities I am in is Student Senate. I have the opportunity to become more involved within the meetings. I am trying to become a Wisconsin Student Government Meeting (WSG) member. To add to that information, I have also been elected to be the Instructional Assistant Club President! Next month I will be in charge of writing the agenda.
Tomorrow is the day I will be at a meeting for the Remodeling committee for the Beaver Dam Campus. I was picked out of a hat of other interested students. I am so grateful for this opportunity!
Don’t forget September 27th (My birthday) is the Beaver Dam Blood Drive. To donate blood, make your online appointment at www.bcw.edu/MPTCBD or call 1-877-232-4376. Walk-ins are welcome. I will be there at 10:30 AM to get poked and then I will be off to my mom’s for a birthday lunch!

As you know, I started college at Moraine Park Technical College in January and I jumped into clubs right away to broaden my college experience. One of those activities I am in is Student Senate. Fall Classes Have Begun!
Hello and welcome back to The Scribbler! I am Kirsten, one of Moraine Park Technical College’s student bloggers.. Last week summer classes ended and this week fall classes have begun. WHOOT! (This week was also the week of my three-year wedding anniversary and the week my kids returned from summer with their dad in North Carolina. BIG WEEK!)
This fall (yes it is considered fall) I am taking three classes for my Instructional Assistant program. Once again I will state it is very important to choose a program. There are so many available right now and if you are not sure what you would be good at you can take some assessment tests with an MPTC counselor. I did and it was fun to learn how I think! This fall I am taking Techniques for Reading and Language Arts, Intro to Educational Practices and Techniques for Mathematics. I have the same instructor for all three classes so that will be very helpful not having to learn three different ways of learning and organizing. (Plus I heard good things about her AND she is my academic advisor.) These classes are all online.
On Tuesday, I went to our first MPTC event on the Beaver Dam campus. It was awesome! We had an improv group come and entertain us while eating a free lunch. LOTS OF LAUGHS! We also had a chance to suggest names for MPTC’s new Mascot, the Gray Wolf. I put my idea for its name in on Tuesday.
Students will have the chance to vote for the new mascot name. Online voting will go live on Tuesday, September 6th. To vote, log into myMPTC, click on the Student Life tab, go to Student Life News and click VOTE! Name MPTC’s Gray Wolf. The Mascot name will be revealed during the week of September 19th. For Beaver Dam the name will be revealed at 11:30AM during lunch with live music by Scratch Track. For West Bend, it will be on September 20th at 4:00 PM during free pizza and for Fond Du Lac on September 21st at 1:00PM during BINGO! The name will also be revealed online on myMPTC on September 22nd.
Next Thursday will be the first Student Senate gathering. We will see and hear all about plans for the upcoming semester. I have decided to join the Instructional Assistant Club, which means I’ll no longer be part of the Multi-cultural club. I know I will only have time for one club and the IA club is my program. I will miss my MC club members but I will see them around either way!

The end of summer
Hello and welcome back to The Scribbler! I am Moraine Park Technical College’s s student blogger, Kirsten Lynch. How has your summer been?
I am done with my summer classes as of this week and I am so excited. I love school but I love a few days off as well. Fall classes are right around the corner so the small break will be perfect!
The last blog I sent out I wrote about being on a student panel for the new student orientation. It went very well! There were three 20 minute time slots that three of us sat in front of the students that were attending the orientation. We were there to answer questions the group may have had and answer the frequently asked questions the organizer had set up beforehand. It was organized to have the new students feel more comfortable and to learn what to expect from college at MPTC. There were friends of mine on the panel with me that I met in the Student Senate and in class. It was a great opportunity!
As for classes, this week I am finishing up Sociology and Psychology. I loved- loved- loved Sociology! Instead of selling my books back to the bookstore I am going to hold on to these two.
Pretty soon, my kids will be back from their trip to their dad’s house, they will be in school as will I, fall will come again and all will be right as rain.

The Student Life Specialist suggested that I take part in the New Student Orientation as a member of their student panel. What an honor! I am signed up to do three 20-minute time slots where I, among others, will be answering questions new students may have before they start college! Thank you Lisa Manuell for having so much faith in me, it means a lot!

Summer School Classes 2
Hello and welcome back to The Scribbler! I am Kirsten Lynch, Moraine Park Technical College’s student blogger.
How are you? I finished my first week of summer school online classes and I seem to be progressing and on top of my work. I struggled quite a bit last week and then I remembered two things.
1) Most things are difficult the first time doing them.
2) MPTC has great student services to help me one-on-one with homework and reiteration.
This week will be much better.
I was thinking about school yesterday when my cousin was telling me about Iraq. Her husband and other’s she knows were stationed there. For the people that live there to vote, they have to sneak in and the military has to guard the post or the Taliban would come and kill them. TO VOTE!
I was thinking how blessed we all are here when it comes to our freedoms. I vote, and I work, and I go to college, and I am a free person to make my own choices. It almost seems to be a shame to not take advantage of what I can do because I am allowed to. Why wouldn’t I vote? Why wouldn’t I want to go to school to get a career and better my life and my childrens’ lives?
Then I was thinking about the movie, "It’s a Wonderful Life”. It is not just me and my family that I am improving by going to college and getting a degree. It is also the lives I touch with in my journey as a student at MPTC. The instructors, the student senate, the classmates, the office staff, the people that read my blog... The lot of you could be and are in some way affected by me. If I was sitting at home or working a job I hated…none of that journey would exist.
How great is this!?

Online Summer Classes
Hello and welcome back to The Scribbler! I am the Beaver Dam Moraine Park Technical College student blogger, Kirsten Lynch.
Today I started my online summer school classes, thank goodness! I like being busy and school is a guaranteed way to be just that!
With my last semester I had in the classroom classes and the homework was all posted via the internet. Online classes are very much different. With that being said they are not easier or more difficult, so far…I will keep you posted though!
I am taking Essentials of Sociology and Psychology Applied to Modern Life. These are both courses required for my IA (Instructional Assistant) program.
So far what I have done is copied and pasted all of the directions given to me online into a word document. Then in a different color I typed notes for each direction. This allows me to type DONE under each direction when I am finished with it. This gives my virtual learning a more tangible feel to it. I am sure I am creating more work for myself than necessary but I don’t want to miss an assignment just because I did not look at it close enough.
The MPTC instructors are great, even the ones I haven’t met in person yet! They have all been so willing to answer my questions and offer assistance where they can. I have often felt like I am their only student. How great is that?

Summer Vacation
Hello and welcome to The Scribbler!
How has your summer been so far? I went to my student orientation on June 1st. The class was for students who are new to online classes. The class was very informative and I even got a credit or so for it. Student orientation is very important even if you are not a new student. They teach the in’s and out’s of classes you are signed up for, how to orientate through E-College, and the importance of reading e-mails instructors send.
E-College is a way to take online classes and to do homework. It is an easy and great way to take classes at home and navigate homework assignments as well. My program that I am in is both online and in the classroom (Blended Classes). Even though there is no teacher there with me when I am taking online classes, there is always support and ways to get answers to my questions right away.
Choosing a program is key to college success. It helps set goals for yourself and enables more opportunities though grants and financial aid. I chose the IA program; Instructional Assistant. After my time at Moraine Park Technical College I will have gained an Associates Degree in Instructional Assistant (teacher assistant). I plan on then going to a 4 year college to become a teacher. I gave myself plenty of time to finish the tech college and it seems if I can keep going the way I am I may finish in three years.
I have been busy getting my kids ready for the trip to their dad’s for the summer. Cleaning, packing, sorting, purging, playing, planning and having fun together is what has made up the last two weeks. We drove to Ohio to drop them off Friday night. Ohio is the half way point to where the kid’s dad lives. We got home Sunday at 4 a.m. Man, we were beat!
On Monday I will be starting my summer classes and I cannot wait! There is just so much spider solitaire and Facebook a girl can handle! I almost started painting the dining room but I knew that would take more time than one round of solitaire and it seems my down time is so sporadic these days!

The summer starts here.
Hello and welcome back to The Scribbler! Regarding my last blog, I did not attend the Multicultural club pot luck as planned. It turned out the time was just not right for me and, as it was, only a few of us from Beaver Dam joined. From what I heard, it was fun.
I have been very busy as I usually am this time of year. My kids go to their dad’s every summer. It is a bittersweet time of the year for me. My ex-husband is a Marine and is currently stationed down south. He and the kids are extremely excited to see each other, but it is a hard time for me to have them gone. It seems when I want to take them to the beach or tuck them in at night is the most difficult times for me to deal with their absence. I am happy they get to see their dad though, and I wish we could all live closer for their benefit. This is the time of year I start gathering papers for them to work on to better their experience for the next scholastic year. It is hot down where they stay, so I know they will have a lot of down time to complete it. After they leave, I go through all of their toys and “get rid of” the toys I know they did not play with this last year or toys they have outgrown. I also overhaul their rooms and deep clean them. That part always makes me miss them, but I know they will be very happy to come back home at the end of August to clean rooms.
I start summer school on the 22nd of June and until then I have time to catch up on house hold things I have been neglecting to put 100% into while I have been in classes since January. I have also placed an ad to babysit this summer part time, since I won’t have my own kids and only am taking two classes online.
As the summer winds-down and fall creeps in, you will be seeing more of the Scribbler. As for the summer, I will only be blogging a bit here and there.

The End of the School Year
Hello and welcome back to The Scribbler.
I am stumped. I don’t have much to say. It is the end of the semester and I have some time off before summer school starts so that will be nice. I am a bit burnt out from all of my hard work put in.
I went to a cottage up toward Eagle River this last weekend and had such a great time I did not want to go back. I think I need to move my family up there! Actually, I did want to come back home. I missed my husband and kids. Sunday morning I woke up to my back going out. Nice way to end the weekend. It worked out okay, but I am still hurting even today.
On Thursday I will be taking a trip to the Fond du Lac campus for a potluck for all three multicultural clubs. That should be fun! Check back later to read about the multicultural club potluck. I will let you know all about that!

SUCCESS!
Hello and welcome back to The Scribbler! This week has been busy for us Moraine Park Technical College students while we wrap up the semester. WHOOT!!!
On Friday the Student Senate had an awards dinner in Lomira. Semi-formal dinner to recognize excellence and time volunteered. It was so much fun and such a great way to celebrate the hard work we all do for ourselves and Moraine Park! There were hundreds of students there and some of their friends and family came for support.
Getting on that stage made me feel so proud and I felt such a satisfaction with myself. One of the neat things about that is all I had to do was do my best and offer my time. How about that!?
I have my last test in math next week and if I pass it that will be my last math class FOREVER! Kudos to me for pulling through and working so hard to complete and learn the assignments! And, an even bigger kudos to my math teacher for helping me achieve my goals. Way to go!

Last Blast!
Hello again and welcome back to The Scribbler! How was your holiday weekend? My weekend was very nice, and the sunny weather on Sunday helped that along just fine!
So guess what? This Tuesday, yes that means tomorrow, Moraine Park Technical College’s Beaver Dam campus is having their LAST BLAST year end celebration!! WOO HOO!
The events start at 11:30 a.m. and run to 1:00 p.m. There is a chance to win money during the game show, Biz Quiz Comedy Game Show with Adam Ace...COOL! Adam Ace is awesome! He has performed over 350 campuses throughout the nation.

So guess what? This Tuesday, yes that means tomorrow, Moraine Park Technical College’s Beaver Dam campus is having their LAST BLAST year end celebration!! WOO HOO!
The events start at 11:30 a.m. and run to 1:00 p.m. There is a chance to win money during the game show, Biz Quiz Comedy Game Show with Adam Ace...COOL! Adam Ace is awesome! He has performed over 350 campuses throughout the nation.

Spoiler Alert/Easter Bunny
Hello and welcome back to The Scribbler! This is a short week here at Moraine Park Technical College because of the holiday coming up. I don’t have school on Fridays anyway so this week is the same for me as it always is.
When it comes to holidays, Easter is my least favorite. I love the fact that it is usually the first holiday of spring and I love that my family gets together but…what’s the deal with the Easter Bunny? According to Wikipedia, the legendary bunny brings baskets filled with colored eggs, candy and sometimes toys to the children of Christmas as they both bring gifts to children on the night before the respective holiday. Now, I could go on and on about Germany, the Holy Roman Empire, Alsace and Upper Rhineland from the 1500’s are all to do with the origination of the hopping dude with baskets or you could search it out yourself. As for the US, the Bunny dude hopped about in the 18th century and was considered one of childhood’s greatest pleasures.
Help me out here…colored eggs that children dye and only eat the white part, get side walk chalk that gets crushed in the driveway or melts away from the rain by June, bubbles that are fun for a few hours until they spill all over the kids’ dollar store flip flops they also got from the hare….I never know what to get!
At what age should a child “know” about the infamous rabbit? I would love to shout it from the roof tops and spoil it for all so I don’t have to buy anymore cruddy baskets or grass that the cat won’t leave alone. What perspective can you give me to learn to like that four legged creature and the things it brings?
Nevertheless, I love holiday gatherings, and as for this MPTC student, I should look at this holiday as a sign that the semester is almost done!

Learning the hard stuff.
Hello and welcome again to The Scribbler! I am proud to introduce myself as Moraine Park Technical College’s fun filled blogger Kirsten Lynch. I have been around a bit now but if this is your first stop, please feel free to archive the blogs and catch up mustard.
I will now introduce to you…my math brain…da da da a done!!! YES, I am cracking up a bit because I have been doing Pre-Algebra homework. AAAAAA! I started to take this Pre-Algebra class this semester to ready myself for the classes that count toward my program. I am learning A LOT of things I did not know before. When I was in high school all we needed to take was a general math class or two. I did that and was good to go after my sophomore year…I never looked at learning math again! Most people in the world, or the world as I know it, because I don’t know everyone in the world, either love-love –love math or they haaatttteeee math! Not me: I respected math. Math and I had a deal. As long as I could get by all would be well. Well, since math is not really “a someone” but “a something,” the deal was broken. Pre-algebra won its way in to my life. I allow it because I want to accomplish my goals and darn varmint if that means I have to take a math class or two so be it!
It has been interesting so far. I have felt like a baby trying to tie shoes… (Cannot happen) I have felt like the smartest women in the world figuring out things and learning things I did not know even in January! I have to ask for help a lot. My teacher gives me a “hard time” but really, he is wonderful. He helps me a lot, answers my questions and takes extra time for me when I ask him. Maybe I got lucky with a teacher who cares and maybe we are all lucky at MPTC. Maybe all the math teachers love their jobs and love math. I know my teacher does. If I try my best and put forth the effort, my work reflects that. My teacher sees that I am working hard; I see that I am working hard and because of that, I am learning. I still don’t love-love-love math, but I don’t haaaaattteee math either. It takes work and trying…two to tango even if the tango is a variable.
